a philosopher; a representative of the second generation of the Frankfurt school of critical theory, he was a student of Max Horkheimer and Theodor Adorno. He earned his reputation for his defense of the Kantian theory of rationality. He publishes on sociology and philosophy. He developed the theory of communicative action. The author of books, including Communication and the Evolution of Society and Theory and Practice.
